North London Heat and Power Project Progress Update – April 2025
Energy Recovery Facility
Construction on the Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) has progressed since the last update in February 2025. The site remains busy with sub-contractors making significant progress in several key areas.
The first phase of the civil construction works programme, which include the Tipping Hall, chutes, Incinerator Bottom Ash floors and turbine table, is being carried out by Byrne Bros Group and nearing completion.
In March, Atlantic Project Company (APC), the sub-contractor engaged to deliver the first of two boilers for the new facility, commenced installation of the first boiler, marking a significant milestone.
The structural steel work which will house the Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) area is ongoing and progressing well by sub-contractors Billington Structures Ltd and Wright Bros.
The project continues to deliver a range of high-quality social value initiatives such as apprenticeships, with two placements from Waltham Forest and Hackney currently being onboarded after successfully completing 3-month work placements. The number of apprenticeships to be delivered is on track to meet the ambitious target set and demonstrates the commitment from North London Waste Authority (NLWA) and contractors to support the creation and sustainability of local opportunities.
EcoPark House
EcoPark House continues to welcome invited visitors for educational sessions and tours. The facility has welcomed almost 200 pupils from 12 schools since opening to bookings in January 2025. The programme has generated keen interest among schools, with most summer term sessions now booked. Initial feedback indicates that the sessions are effective in raising students’ awareness of waste and circular economy behaviours.

Community groups interested in visiting the EcoPark can reach out to North London Heat and Power Project at NLHPP@nlwa.gov.uk to learn more about available tour opportunities.

Recycling Facilities
The Edmonton EcoPark Reuse and Recycling Centre has seen a steady increase in visitors since opening in July 2024. In its first nine months of its opening, more than 16,000 vehicles have visited the centre.
Open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm, the centre is open late to better serve the local community. The centre is conveniently accessible to residents living in Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest.
