Turbine and Generator Installation Marks Major Project Milestone
Construction of the new Energy Recovery Facility at Edmonton EcoPark has reached another significant milestone with the successful installation of the facility's turbine and generator.
The 160-tonne turbine and 125-tonne generator are key components in the facility’s energy generation process. Working together, they will convert steam produced during the energy recovery process into electricity, helping to recover valuable energy from non-recyclable waste.
Manufactured by Doosan Škoda Power and paired with a Siemens generator, the system will be capable of generating up to 78MW of electricity. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce enough energy to power around 120,000 homes and provide heating and hot water to more than 60,000 homes each year.
The installation represents a major step forward in the construction of the facility and follows months of detailed planning, transportation and lifting operations. The achievement is a testament to the expertise and collaboration of the teams involved, who safely delivered and installed this vital equipment on site.
