How are you addressing Covid-19 measures on construction sites?

We have been working with our contractors, Buckingham and Galldris, to agree what measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of all of our workers as they return to site. The measures will be in line with the construction industry’s best practice guidelines.

Our contractors have approved Construction Phase Plans (CPPs) which have been reviewed and amended to take account of the new guidance for working in construction under COVID-19 regulations.

We’re implementing a number of measures based on government guidance, in particular from the Construction Leadership Council, which we have used to produce a COVID-19 Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) for each site. In line with the RAMS, we will have marshals monitoring each site to ensure that social distancing is maintained. Certain tasks require workers to be within 2m of each other for construction health and safety reasons. In such circumstances and in line with Government guidance on construction work, correct safety measures, including specialist PPE, temperature checks and handwashing, will be adhered to.

All workers on site will have access to the required PPE which includes, gloves, facemasks, safety glasses, hi-vis jackets, hi-vis trousers, steel toe boots and hard hats. Hand washing facilities and sanitiser stations will be available for all workers throughout the site and we will be carrying out temperature checks as workers enter and exit the site.

Construction hours have not changed and will therefore remain at 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am – 1pm on Saturday. The workers can arrive and exit the site up to half an hour outside of these times and most will travel to site using their own transport.
