What are the construction time scales?
Work to prepare the site for development started in early 2019 and includes the construction of a temporary laydown area in the Lee Valley Regional Park.
The delivery of the project will be carried out in three stages, to ensure the existing facility can continue to manage waste until the new one is ready:
- Preparing the site for construction (2019)
- Construction of the Resource Recovery Facility and EcoPark House (commencing late 2020)
- Construction of the Energy Recovery Facility and decommissioning of the existing plant at Edmonton EcoPark (commencing 2022)
We anticipate that the current plant will remain in operation until it is decommissioned in approximately 2026-2027.
The existing plant will be demolished and the laydown area land will be returned to its previous condition.
